Township Committee

The five-member Township Committee is Wyckoff’s governing body. It adopts the municipal budget and township ordinances. Three of the five seats are on this year’s ballot.

The Clerk’s sample ballot shows “No nomination made” in the Democratic column for all three seats, so the Republican nominees are the only names printed: two for the two three-year seats and one for the one-year seat. The only alternative on the ballot is a write-in vote.

I am speaking in my individual capacity as a candidate; my comments are my own and do not represent the Board of Education. […] When I talk with parents one on one, the message is consistent: balance technology with in-person and educator-led learning, reduce screen time in the early years, and give us a meaningful say in our kid’s education. […] I am running again because I see real challenges ahead. Costs are rising, and we must protect core programs while being careful stewards of taxpayer dollars. Technology and AI are becoming part of everyday learning, and that calls for clear rules and real oversight.”

Public question: Municipal Open Space Trust Fund

Wyckoff voters are asked whether to continue the township’s existing Municipal Open Space Trust Fund, funded by an annual tax levy of no more than 1 cent per $100 of assessed valuation. The interpretive statement printed on the ballot says the fund may be used for open space acquisition and preservation, recreation and conservation, farmland preservation, historic preservation, Blue Acres projects, and related debt service, and that the township has used it for open space, parks, athletic fields, recreational facilities and historic properties, including the Zabriskie House and the Larkin House. The statement also says the township currently preserves and maintains about 152.04 acres of open space, including the roughly 21.04-acre former Maple Lake property acquired in the last five years. It puts the estimated annual revenue at the full 1-cent rate at about $486,930, based on the 2026 tax list, and says the authorization remains in effect until changed by a future referendum.

What changes: the fund’s current cap is half a cent per $100, and voters have renewed it every five years since 2006. Ordinance 2093, adopted in June, raises the cap to 1 cent and ends the five-year renewals if voters approve. On the township’s own worked example, a home assessed at $810,700, the open space line was $41 in 2025 at the half-cent rate; at the full 1-cent cap it would be about $81. Our Oct. 4 explainer has more.

“Shall the Township of Wyckoff continue, maintain, and fund the existing Municipal Open Space Trust Fund through the collection of an annual tax levy in an amount not to exceed $0.01 (1 cent) per $100 of assessed valuation…?” The full wording is printed on the sample ballot.
