Wyckoff News is open to publishing guest opinion pieces from residents and officials on local issues.

Who can submit

Any Wyckoff resident or official. Pieces run under the author’s own name. Officials writing about town matters must identify their title or role in the byline.

What we’re looking for

Opinion and perspective on local issues — a resident’s take on a zoning dispute, an official’s explanation of a vote, a proposal for something the town should do differently. This is a space for argument and perspective, not a substitute for our news reporting.

Length

Roughly 600–800 words.

Editing

We may edit submissions for length, clarity, or to remove anything defamatory or unsupported about a named individual. We will not edit the substance of your argument, and you’ll see any edits before publication.

Content boundaries

No personal attacks on named individuals. No factual claims about named individuals that we can’t reasonably stand behind. We reserve the right to decline or request changes to a submission that crosses these lines.

Disclosure

Every guest op-ed is clearly labeled as opinion, not staff reporting, and has not been independently fact-checked by our newsroom the way a news article is. If you have a relevant relationship to the subject of your piece — for example, you’re a party to litigation you’re writing about, or an official writing about a matter in your own jurisdiction — that relationship will be disclosed alongside the piece.

Right of reply

If a piece criticizes a specific named official, board, or organization, we will reach out to give them an opportunity to respond — either as a postscript appended to the piece or a follow-up op-ed of their own. This is handled case by case, not on a fixed schedule.

Candidates for office

Declared candidates may submit during their campaign, under the rules above plus these. One op-ed per candidate, per race.

Before we publish any candidate’s op-ed, every other candidate in that race gets the same offer. Each candidate op-ed carries a note telling readers that every candidate in the race was offered the same space.

Submissions close two weeks before Election Day, and nothing candidate-written runs in the final week. For November 3, 2026, that means October 20 and October 27.

Publishing an op-ed is not an endorsement. We don’t endorse candidates, and submitting or declining a piece has no bearing on our coverage.
