The crosswalk across Wyckoff Avenue at Spring Meadow Drive, closed since at least June,[2] was open when we drove by around noon on Friday, Oct. 23. The barrels and "Sidewalk Closed" signs that had blocked its curb ramps were gone, and solar-topped beacon poles with pedestrian-crossing signs stood at both ends.[1]

Three days earlier, at the Township Committee's Oct. 20 meeting, Township Administrator Matt Cavallo said, "The new pedestrian crossing beacons at Wyckoff Ave and Spring Meadow have been installed." The township was still waiting on what he called "advanced signage," which he described as "the signage in advance of the actual crossing post," and he said he would follow up with the township's engineer.[3] Advance warning signs are posted along the road ahead of a crosswalk to alert drivers.

The township's Oct. 22 e-newsletter, dated the day before our visit, carried its "Crosswalk Closed" notice, which says the township is "awaiting installation of a pedestrian activated crossing beacon and advance warning signs."[4] We don't know exactly when the crossing opened, or whether the advance signs are up.

The crossing serves Spring Meadow, a 112-home senior community.[5] Our Oct. 14 story has the full history.
