DRUNK DRIVER STRIKES FRANKLIN AVENUE HOME; WOMAN ARRESTED IN STOLEN-ID PAWN SCHEME
A Wyckoff man drove into a residence on Franklin Avenue in February and was charged with DWI, while a Florida woman who used a stolen identity to pawn jewelry was arrested after being released from custody in Ramsey.
A Wyckoff man was arrested in February after his vehicle struck a Franklin Avenue residence while he was under the influence of alcohol, and a Florida woman who used a stolen driver's license to pawn jewelry at a Wyckoff business was arrested in late March after a month-long investigation — the two most significant cases in the Wyckoff Police Department's April press release.
On February 20 at approximately 3:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Monroe Avenue after a vehicle struck a residence. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Mariusz Paluch, 50, of Wyckoff, who was charged with driving while intoxicated, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, possession of an open container, failure to keep right, and failure to maintain a lane. Paluch was released to a family member, and the vehicle was towed and held for 12 hours under John's Law. The home sustained minor damage and was deemed habitable. [2]
The identity fraud case began February 15 when Sgt. Michael DeMaio received a tip from Franklin Lakes Police about a suspicious pawn transaction in Wyckoff on February 13. Investigation revealed that Stephanie Vogel, 41, of Daytona Beach, Florida, had pawned jewelry using a stolen Florida driver's license bearing another person's identity. On March 17, DeMaio issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of wrongful impersonation, forgery, and uttering a false government document. On March 31, Ramsey Police reported Vogel was in their custody on an unrelated matter. Upon her release from Ramsey, she was transferred to Wyckoff Police, processed, and remanded to the Bergen County Correctional and Rehabilitation Center. [1]
The release also documented four shoplifting cases. Joseph Medina, 51, of Dumont, was identified after a February 17 ShopRite incident and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a fourth-degree shoplifting charge. Alan Pino, 31, of Hicksville, N.Y., was charged by summons following a February 19 Stop & Shop theft. Kiernan Todzia, 24, of Staten Island, was identified from surveillance footage after a March 4 Stop & Shop shoplifting and a warrant was issued. Reina Terezon-Zepeda, 36, of Newark — for whom a warrant had been issued in January following a Marshall's shoplifting — was transported from the Monmouth County Jail on April 1 and lodged at the Bergen County Correctional and Rehabilitation Center.
