A man who flagged down police by claiming his car had run out of gas was arrested in the early hours of January 16 after officers discovered he had provided a false identity and was in possession of controlled dangerous substances, according to a Wyckoff Police Department press release.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., a resident of Godwin Avenue reported an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway. The occupant told P.O. Marissa Santo that he had run out of gas, but provided a fictitious name and date of birth, claiming he did not have a driver's license. Further investigation led to the arrest of Anthony Juliano, 39, of Ridgefield Park. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution of a prescription legend drug, possession of paraphernalia, failure to make proper disposition of a controlled dangerous substance, and hindering apprehension by providing false information. He was remanded to the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center. [2]

The release also documented a home invasion that occurred in late December. A Charnwood Drive resident reported on December 29 that the New Jersey State Police had notified them their wallet had been recovered in a stolen vehicle in another jurisdiction. Investigation revealed that an unlocked vehicle in the driveway had been entered, its garage door opener used to access the garage, and the occupied residence then entered through the garage. A wallet and two jackets were reported stolen. The detective bureau is continuing the investigation. [2]

Also in December, officers responded to a burglar alarm on Sunset Boulevard on December 20 and observed a cut window screen and tool markings consistent with an attempted entry. No one had entered the home. That investigation is also ongoing. [1]

On December 16, a DWI arrest followed a vehicle crash into a utility pole on Cedar Hill Avenue. Ryan Kemp, 36, of North Haledon, was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving; his vehicle was impounded under John's Law. [1]

Two shoplifting arrests were also made on December 16 at ShopRite: Paul Tur, 68, of Midland Park, and Frank Weathers, 66, of Paterson, were each arrested and charged with shoplifting. [1]

On January 17, officers arrested two suspects at Marshall's after loss prevention alerted police to shoplifters actively concealing merchandise. Grace Ortega-Briceno, 40, of Paterson, was charged with shoplifting and, while in custody, identified as having committed a prior shoplifting at the same store on January 15; she received an additional charge. Jesus Sarmiento-Ramos, 42, of Paterson, was charged with one count of shoplifting. Both were released pending court dates. [2]
